Running head: FMLY 1012 Class Project Part 1 0 Part A) Wind Energy Definition The wind is a source that provides us with unlimited energy that is not only unharmful for our environment as it does not give off carbon dioxide or sulphur dioxide but is also free of cost too (Johnson, 1985). This source is used to generate mechanical energy which can be converted into electricity using a generator (Department of Energy, 2014). To make this happen, wind turbines are used as they have angled blades attached to their revolving shank. These angled blades are caused to turn around the rotor as wind collides with them that causing the generator to spin due to which electricity is generated (Department of Energy, 2014). Relation to Social Development The most significant aspect of wind energy is that it is a clean source of energy and is also renewable. This is because it does not pollute the air we breathe in as it does not involve the burning of fossil fuels and power is sent across the grids by utilizing the energy that is being produced by the bright shining sun and blowing wind (Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy, 2017). Hence, this energy has positive effects on the economy and environment and ultimately on our health as it does not release harmful gases into the atmosphere. This lowers the chances of smog, greenhouse gases, or acid rain from little to no. These are the reasons that lead to wind energy becoming a significant part of the world energy system (Johnson, 1985). So, wind energy is related to social development as it can affect the economy and the health of the people due to its efficient performance. Mastering Course Learning Objective Understanding the concept of wind energy is essential to mastering the course because it tells about the several reasons for an individual’s health to be positively affected by it. Petroleum, coal and nuclear energy pose serious environment-related issues. Wind energy is far better than nuclear as it protects individuals from various health hazards (Johnson, 1985). Academic Publication The academic resource is written by Gary L. Johnson (1985). The author introduces the Wind Energy system and follows it with its history and how it is better for the individuals when compared with other sources of energy like nuclear, coal, etc. Non-Academic Publication The non-academic resource is written by the Department of Energy (2014 – 2017). In this article, the author demonstrates the working of the Wind Energy System and also lists its advantages. Video The video (National Renewable energy Laboratory (2020) shows the basin overview of how wind energy works and is supplied to homes and businesses.
