You’ll use the same format as for the nuclear energy paper.  This time the question is, “What effects do commercial pheromones have on people’s behavior?”Critical Thinking about Science and Technology
PhS 1080
You will write an Issue Review Paper for each topic we cover during the semester.
• Paper 2: What effects do commercial pheromones have on people’s behavior?
Appropriately cite any quotes drawn from the course texts and any website
references. Inappropriate or missing citations are plagiarism.

a. (5 pts) In a sentence, summarize your position on the issue. (Claim)
b. (15 pts) List three facts or ideas (Evidence) that support your position.
Explain your reasoning of how the evidence supports your position

support may be from an article or may be from personal experience/
personal moral code/ etc.

6. (10 pts) Appropriate citations are used in paper. Reference ideas or quotes from
articles with (Author, year). If Author is unknown, cite publication
source/website as author. If publication date of website is unknown, cite retrieval
date. Include a full reference in the bibliography for any article/website you
found on your own (i.e. an article not assigned in class).
Ex. Article reference:
Author, A. A., (year, month day). Title of article. Name of Magazine,
Volume, pages.
Ex. Website reference:

In general, questions 2 and 3 will take the form of a pro-position (ex. “Yes, the US should
build more nuclear power plants) and a con-position (ex. “No, the US should not build
more nuclear power plants). However, other more nuanced positions are possible and
encouraged (ex. “The US should promote all forms of non-fossil fuel energy production,
including nuclear, solar, and wind.) Supports/evidence for questions 2 and 3 should
come from the readings. Supports for question 6 may come from the in-class readings,
external readings, or personal experience.
